Devils in Depth: Academic goals
“Devils in Depth” is a project that gets down to earth and captures the diversity of Arizona State’s student population. We engage in conversations with students in an effort to learn more about their passions and get a feel for who they really are. Then, we ask them for their thoughts on a central theme. This month’s theme is academic goals.
Rebecca
“My goal is to get on with an internship so I can get a big time job. I want to be progressing onto the jobs that matter and you need an internship in college to do that.
I also want to make an impression. Maybe make a difference somewhere and encourage people who may think ‘oh I’m not good at this’ and tell them ‘you can if you work for it!’ For people like me, I don’t take criticism well. It hurts me. So I think it’d be good to teach people to be more gentle about correcting others.”
Ivan
“My goal for this year is just to basically make it way better than last year on all levels–financially, academically and also socially. I just want to be able to meet new people and pursue new experiences. Just bettering myself in every way and each day I want to make better than the last.”
Ali
“I really just want to grow as a person and get into better study habits and meet a lot more people. During high school, my studying was horrible. I could not study and do good on tests, so I want to make sure that here I have good study habits.
I also definitely want an internship with a huge company. I love the Mayo Clinic so working with them would be amazing. I just decided to become a vet. I had wanted to become a surgeon before and so the Mayo Clinic for me is huge. I dealt with a lot of cancer in my family and stuff and the research that they do is just amazing.”
Jason
“I want to do really well and try to dive head first into my passion as much as I can. I also just hope to graduate.”
