Senior Send-Off: Devils in Depth style

“Devils in Depth” is a project that gets down to earth and captures the diversity of Arizona State’s student population. We engage in conversations with students in an effort to learn more about their passions and get a feel for who they really are. Then we ask them their thoughts on a central theme. This week we sat down with our seniors to ask them about their time at the SDFC and what they’ll do following graduation.

Jordan

His favorite Live Well tip: “Always be true to yourself and follow your instincts.”

On his future plans: “My plans are to follow my dreams, whatever dreams they might be at the time. And make money to allow myself to follow those dreams. I want to move into a place with my friends and find a job that I really like.”

What he would have told his freshman self: “Just do you and don’t worry about whatever anyone else is doing.”

On what he learned working at the SDFC: “Being here, I learned how different people think and how to communicate effectively with different kinds of people.”

His favorite SDFC memory: “I’d say…I think having the polls on the whiteboard, as simple as that was, was a really good memory for me, something I really enjoyed about the office. It was cool for the group energy to have those.”

Hrag

His favorite Live Well tip: “Getting enough sleep. I feel like that’s the most important one for me.”

On his future plans: “I want to work for a sports marketing/apparel agency…really getting behind what’s gonna bring brand awareness and kinda behind sportswear and sports tech.”

What he would have told his freshman self: “Address things head-on. That’s something that I only started to be proficient at when I was a junior…just embrace people, cut the tension. Be a personable person. Be the initiator.”

On what he learned working at the SDFC: “The managerial skills I got here, because there’s a lot of different management styles and I feel like I found mine. I feel like I’m pretty clear and logistical, but I’ve also found a way to engage with the people I work with on a more personal level.”

Kristi

Her favorite Live Well tip: “I think my favorite icon is the ‘Feel’ icon, because it’s often left out of the picture when it comes to wellness and achievement.”

On her future plans: “My plans for the future would probably coincide with what I’ve done here at the SDFC: working in a small team, hopefully collaborating with people outside my profession, hopefully doing graphic design.”

What she would have told her freshman self: “I would tell my freshman self that it’s okay if things don’t play out perfectly, just take things in stride as best you can and make good memories.”

Her favorite SDFC memory: “Working with this team, seeing it grow from the beginning has come with a lot of memories. It’s kinda hard to choose one…when the team got together outside of the workplace. We all could get closer to each other and make the workplace feel more collaborative naturally.”

Gill

His favorite Live Well tip: “I believe you need to be mentally strong, then you can be physically strong.”

On his future plans: “I’m looking for a full-time job…San Francisco, Phoenix too, Michigan because that’s the hub of the mechanical industry.”

What he would have told his freshman self: “Choose your courses more wisely. I ended up taking tough courses, and some good courses I ignored.”

His favorite SDFC memory: “I had never worked before [this job]. So this is like a whole new experience. I still remember my first paycheck of $72. I was in a different country with different people and everything, so I came here, I get to work with you people and it’s very good.”

Emily

Her favorite Live Well tip: “Take time to spend time outdoors away from your computer.”

On her future plans: “Take a break from working and figure out who I am and what I want to actually be doing with my life, so I can take time and apply myself and apply for jobs at places where I really want to be working.”

What she would have told her freshman self: “I had no idea that the graphic design program here would be so difficult to get through. It’s been a lot of long hours. Don’t take everything so seriously, to a point. It’s important to take time to have fun.”

On what she learned working at the SDFC: “How to work with a team better, like a bigger team. That’s been a good experience for me because I’ve worked with groups of students in the past, but usually they’re just other graphic designers.”
