Inside the SDFC: Madison Diluccia

When we enter the SDFC and are greeted by the many friendly faces of the workers, do we ever stop to think about who they really are, what they are like? Probably not. There’s more to our employees meets the eye. I had the pleasure of sitting down and interviewing Madison about her life, inside and outside of the SDFC.

Julio: Can you tell us who you are?

Madison: I’m Madison Diluccia. I’m a sophomore, a business communication major with a minor in German. I am a goalie on the club water polo team. I am a student coordinator for Sport Clubs. I oversee safety officers, travel, reimbursements and purchasing.

J: Where are you from?

M: I’m from Southern California, Orange County. I went to Tesoro high School.

J: What brought you to ASU?

M: Honestly, it’s far enough away, but not too far (from home). Also, the opportunities that ASU provides, especially the business school.

J: What do you like about working here?

M: I like being able to work with the clubs as much as I do. I’ve learned to work with them individually or in a group. I like helping and guiding them and I feel like I’m connected to so many different people through my job and it’s a great experience.

J: So you said you speak German. Did you learn it just through your minor or did you always know how to speak German?

M: I started taking it in high school. I’ve actually earned my California Seal of Biliteracy in high school. So I am technically fluent and I’m just taking the classes to earn my minor.

J: Have you always played water polo? When did this journey start?

M: I have been playing for six years now. I’ve always played goalie though. It was kind of one of those on-the-fly decisions to try something new. I’ve always been a swimmer and I wanted to try a new sport, so I jumped into water polo and I fell in love with it.

J: So when you started working here you just decided to join the club team?  How has that been going?

M: It’s been pretty good. This year is my first year on the team, I’ve been learning about all the girls and the environment and how it’s so much different from my old team. I’ve been getting along with my new team.

J: What’s in your gym playlist?

M: I would say a lot of rock music. I listen to hardcore rock and rap music that kinda just gets me into the zone to workout.

J: Any specific artist or album that you’re listening to right now or what’s a song that you play that gets you pumped? Gets you ready to dominate on the water polo team or have a great workout.

M: People are gonna think I’m weird cause its such an intense song. It is, Immortalized by Disturbed. That’s kinda like my pregame song. It’s hardcore rock and I just get into this zone right before I get into the pool.

J: That’s sick. Before I wrap this up. What is something you would like to share that most people don’t know about you?

M: I embroider. That’s my weird quirk, is that I embroider. No one knows that, I’m like an old lady.

Madison is just one of the many great personalities that work here. There are more stories to tell so be sure to tune in next time, Inside the SDFC.
